Aalborg University

Aalborg University was created through a merger of a number of well-established institutions, combined with the establishment of a number of new faculties in 1974. Aalborg University's oldest study programme dates back to 1768 when the land management and cadastral development programme was first established. Other institutions included in Aalborg University were the Aalborg Regional Business School, established in 1920, the Danish Building Research Institute, established in 1947, Esbjerg Technical College, established in 1955, Aalborg Technical College, established in 1963, the School of Social Work in Aalborg, established in 1966, Denmark’s Academy of Engineering in Aalborg, established in 1967 and the Copenhagen Business School, Aalborg Regional Department, established in 1969. Aalborg University meets regional demands for academically educated staff, research, innovation and communication, while collaborating with other Danish universities to meet national demands. The international perspective is reflected in the university's research and education activities through the employment of international teaching staff, the establishment of student exchange programmes and international research collaboration. Aalborg University is currently expanding its strong research areas ranging from basic research and applied research within all the academic fields represented at the university to world class research areas within selected fields. The university is also expanding its multidisciplinary research activities and increasing its collaboration across different research and knowledge areas.

Aalborg University offers education and research within the fields of natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, technical and health sciences. Aalborg University currently consolidates and further develops its profile as a dynamic and innovative research and educational institution oriented towards the surrounding world. It is characterised by combining a keen engagement in local, regional, and national issues with an active commitment to international collaboration.
