University of Texas El Paso

As you explore our website, you will find that UTEP offers academic and research excellence with innovative programs and services, outstanding faculty, and a university-wide commitment to student success. UTEP is proud to be well on the way toward becoming the first national research university in the U.S. with a 21st century student demographic. We are successfully transforming this university, pursuing a quest for excellence while strengthening our commitment to access, and thereby creating a new higher education model that is not only working in our setting, but attracting widespread respect and emulation. UTEP boasts many points of pride, including: UTEP is ranked third among our seven peer Emerging Research Universities by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Our collective commitment and hard work over the past 20 years has placed UTEP at the forefront of higher education transformation in Texas and nationally. Our progress in becoming one of the nation’s most competitive research/doctoral universities has been successfully combined with a strong and sustained commitment to access. We are committed to preparing the next generation of researchers and scholars through such innovative programs as the Center for Space Exploration and Technology Research, Center for Hispanic Health Disparities, Institute of Oral History, the Border Biomedical Research Center, Center for Defense Systems Research, and Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies.

More than 22,740 students are enrolled at UTEP, and that number continues to increase each year. We offer a broad array of degree programs – 70 bachelor’s, 75 master’s and 19 doctoral degrees taught by outstanding faculty who have been nationally recognized for their commitment to student success. Compared to all other public research institutions in the U.S., an undergraduate degree from UTEP is a great value. Full-time UTEP undergraduates incur the lowest out-of-pocket cost or “net price” for their degrees. As UTEP approaches its 100th birthday in 2014, we remain committed to our mission of providing students access to excellent academic programs. We are proud that our University was recognized by Washington Monthly magazine as #12 in the nation for excellence in social mobility, research and service. More specifically, UTEP ranked #1 among all U.S. universities in the Social Mobility category for helping our students achieve their dreams and professional aspirations.
